Music Monday: You're Unbelievable

Today's track is for my peeps. They are 100% unbelievable. Grooooooooaaaaaan!

Granted, today's song may have used before is known for its profanity. Before I explain, take a quick little listen to EMF's Unbelievable:

The video is less than thrilling, I know. But, did you hear that? Take a closer listen to the chorus - there is a background vocal that can be vaguely heard saying, "What the fuck was that?"

Now typically, this would require strict editing before any type of radio play proceeded. However, these lyrics were never edited (probably because they were considered incoherent background vocals). Now you know better, you are armed for pissing off only the most prominent prudes with your newfound musical knowledge.

Considering the sheer amount of air time Unbelievable has received since its release, and the amount of times the f-bomb is dropped in this specific song, this track is likely responsible for the most profanity ever heard over radio.

Not enough? You want more?

Well, know that according to the song on the B-side of the Unbelievable single was a song called "EMF" (a self-titled track). This song included the chorus: "E! Ecstasy! M! Motherfucker, motherfucker! F! From us to you…"

What would their mother think? I can tell you, mine would not be impressed.

Now that I've mentioned my Mother, here's a fun fact about me: when I was in university I rarely studied in the library. When I did I would do the natural thing - scope out a chair close to a cute boy. I'd set up my song, wait to catch his eye and then I'd push play.

Who needs poetry when you've got a ready-to-go, an "unbelievable" if you will, catchline?

To try my little trick, know that my sweet spot is right around 1:17. A note to catch his attention, and wham bam thank you ma'am!

Starting to get saucy,

L

Melting and Mushy

Today, my intriguing Internet friends, this song is for you.

After your lovely response to my return, I couldn't help but send you all a shout out. Partially because you are all so damn cute, but mainly because you make me feel so damn good.

You see, this year I have made a conscious effort to discuss the things (about me) that make me feel extremely ill-at-ease. My hopes were that all this "talk therapy" would ease my insecurities while reducing some of the stigma some of my nearest-and-dearest felt about some of the problems plaguing my own person.

It seems, that like my attempted giveaway, I have only succeeded in falling flat on my face.

That's okay - because you know what? I can laugh about it now. Six months ago, that wouldn't have happened.

I attribute a major part of my small success to you, my beautiful blogging buddies.

You guys ROCK. MY. WORLD.

Thanks people. Your comments, emails and good old fashioned tongue-in-cheek movement (and I mean that in all seriousness) really mean a lot.

You really make me smile; I hope I can do the same for you.

Now for the music. Keep reading, we aren't done yet.

Duck, Duck, No Wait, It's a Goose!

My goodness, this is embarrassingly late. Some time ago, a love cupcake craving chick tagged me in a game of "Duck-Duck-Goose".

First, the girl. She is absolutely adorable, and I just love her blog. You'll love her too, especially if you love to bake.

Now, the game. I am required to post fifteen facts about myself, and then tag five new bloggers to complete their own list.

This was no small order. Partially because I am still chuckling over my original list, partially because I am always nervous opening myself up to the Internet.

"Why on earth do I blog?", you ask? That's a good question. I'll let you know when I have a good answer. I'm full of little idiosyncrasies like that.

Okay, that was a freebie. These bits are on the books:

1.) I am a photography student (although it still feels weird to say that).

2.) Photoshop and I have a love/hate relationship. We love to hate each other. Seriously. Hate.

3.) The majority of my photography projects, to date, have included a somewhat morbid theme. I tell myself it just "happens" that way, so I don't feel like such a weirdo.

4.) Big Brother? No. You need to be worried about me. I see everything, I make predictions and I am right most of the time.

5.) I respect your right to make your own lifestyle choices, although, it is highly unlikely I agree with them.

6.) Speaking of, I have a couple of friends I need to dump; I hate doing it, and never quite get around to it. Here's hoping you aren't on the chopping block.

7.) My spare brain storage goes to any, and all, etiquette rules. I love to know how I should be acting.

8.) I judge you by your wedding invitations.

9.) I also judge you by your table manners. However, all bets are off if we are wearing pyjamas.

10.) Pizza is, by far, my favourite food.

11.) Guilty pleasures? Baywatch and The Bachelor.

12.) I have never whitened my teeth.

13.) My little sister left for the army in September. She has some high ranking intelligence job and I don't really get to know where she is. I don't like to talk about it, because it makes me miss her more.

14.) There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that my husband will do anything and everything to keep me safe, no matter what.

15.) Chivalry turns me on (when it comes from a non incestuous source).

So, that is the list of Linnie. I hope that will tide you over until I create another one. Now, for the new bloggers.

The fabulously talented (and sweeter than sugar) Ana, at i made it so.
Ms. Charlie, who you can find at the best fashion blog:Heart Charlie. Forget the other fashionistas, this girl rocks my world.
The lovely Tammy George, a pure fan of colour who can be found at Punk Rawk Purl
The (knitting) needle neurotic Zoe, at A Giraffe in a Scarf. Check out her hats!
And finally, the crafty maven and an old favourite of mine, Chantilly, who calls from her corner My Girl Thursday.

GOOSE, you're it. Let's see if you are paying attention. We all know I wasn't.

I must might be crazy,

L

Back in Black, For Now

Good evening my electronic locals!

Did you miss me?

Well, regardless of your love (or lack thereof) I am back, for now. In my absence a few things happened. Let's recap:

1.) Thanksgiving: can you say YUM? While my turkey day was turkey-free (I blame the Parentals who were too busy living a life of adventure to cook me a turkey) it was fabulous. I ordered pizza.

2.) Grannie got the staples from her foot removed and I was there for the whole thing. I even have pictures! If you missed it, you can read all about her broken bone here. After being told she was not to shower or walk on it, the first thing she did was take a shower. I can hardly blame her I suppose, but, Grannie, please leave the sledgehammer at home.

3.) The Beast got some bad news. Being a large dog he is prone to dysplasia and it seems the D has effected the L; his elbow that is. The poor guy is limping around and he is still growing! He is still young and so we are hopeful he may grow out of it if we keep him quiet and consistently exercise the joint. It could go horribly wrong and we could end up putting him down early on but I just don't think so. The Beast is a dog set in his ways and right now, his ways include living. Dude is on a diet to keep him lean and we enjoy short walks. No more jaunts at the beach or slices of 'za on Friday nights. Well, maybe half a slice is okay - he's a big boy and he deserves to have a little fun.

4.) I won a MASSIVE giveaway. My darling friend has a wonderful crafty blog and Etsy store. Recently she hosted a giveaway and I won the first prize of a $75 gift certificate! Since I love her stuff, it won't last long. Word on the street has it she is making some new products - I can't wait! I'll post pictures of my purchases as I get them!

5.) I finished my mysterious project I had asked for your assistance a couple of weeks ago and I finally put your words to use! A big THANK YOU for all the responses! Look for my work later in the week!

6.) I have started the colourful journey of attempting to add more fruits and veggies to my diet. There is a wonderful foodie blogger who has offered to provide me tips on healthy eating. The caveat, I have to do one tip before I get another. How is that for punishment??!? This week I have to drink (or eat?) a smoothie. Problem is, it has a banana in it. I don't do banana's folks. I promise to let you know how the fruity feast goes.

All in all, it has been a busy week!

What have you been up to these past few weeks? Any particular events or accomplishments to speak of?

Working with the wicked,

L

A Pre-Bliss Quiz: Blissdom Canada '10

Good evening kids,

It has been a fabulous trip to date and I cannot believe it is almost over!

In the meantime, I have some news!  Before I left, I arranged to visit a blogging conference called "Blissdom Canada".  It is something new to try and I hope to learn LOTS to keep things chugging along here.

BlissDom Canada

Some of the other ladies attending the conference have a little quiz going which you will see below!

1.) Did you attend Blogher '10?
No, I did not!  I am brand new to the blogging world!

2.) Are you attending Blissdom Canada this fall?
Yes, indeed I am.

3.) When are you at your blogging best - A.M. or P.M.?
I tend to blog the best late at night, which can typically translate into the wee hours of the morning.  I blog when I am in the mood.

4.) How many blogs do you have?  Include links!
I only have this one, Linnie gets Laced.

5.) What technical skills would you like to learn to improve your blog?
I hope to learn more about coding and promotion, as well as different platforms and social media.  Networking will be key as well.

6.) Do you prefer the sound of silence or does action abound while you blog?
I prefer having some kind of noise, whether that be a fantastic movie (Casino Royale plays as we speak) or some amazing music, to keep me company.

7.) Do you include the names of your family in your blog?
No, I do not.  All names have been changed to protect the privacy of those written about.  My family members and their stories, however, are 100% bonafide.

8.) Do you post pictures or videos of your children?
No.  I do not have any children, so that is an easy answer.

9.) What's the grossest thing you've spilled on your keyboard?
Hmmmm, I have gotten a TON of dog slobber on this bad boy.  That is complements of the Beast (and very gross) especially when it is mixed in with bits of his dinner.

10.) Have you ever posted something you wrote while intoxicated?
No, nothing is published while I've been at the sauce.  It's like drunk dialling folks - just don't do it.

11.) Do you go back and edit old posts just because you can?
I have only done so because of a spelling error or formatting issue.  I try to be fanatical about spelling.  However, if I was to alter the content of a post, I would certainly mark the post to let my readers know!
EDIT: I have found myself consistently editing posts due to spelling, grammatical and formatting issues.  This counts as editing.  My answer is therefore: Yes, I edit my posts because I can.  That is how I roll.

12.) Have you ever suspected somebody took something you write and pawned it off as their own?
Yes, I have.  Without absolute proof, however, they are just that: suspected.  Seeing as imitation is the best form of flattery, I try not to get my panties in a bunch about it.

13.) Does your spouse read your blog?  What do they say about it?
Yes, the Newf reads my blog.  He tells me exactly what he thinks, that is just the type of guy he is.  Don't ask if you don't want the answer.  I appreciate his honesty though.

14.) What's something cool/positive/unexpected for you that has resulted directly from blogging?
I am starting to found something that I thought I had lost forever, a sense of confidence and pride in my work.  I am also learning to network!

15.) Link to a post (or a few) which demonstrate your writing style:

16.) Name a blog (or blogs) that make you exclaim, "Damn! I wish I'd written that!"
Well, there are blogs I greatly enjoy but I find a blog suits its writer.  I tend to do things to the beat of my own drum, however, the blog that inspired me to start my own is So Fawned, written by Ms. Desiree Fawn.  It really piqued my interest in it's first year.

I would also give a heartfelt thank you to both Tara at Tara's View of the World and Tamara at Blog Conference Guide for the (Un)Experienced for all of their support and encouragement!

So, please, if you are a fellow blogger attending this conference drop me a line!  Maybe we can meet up, go for a drink, and otherwise dispel our pre-conference jitters!

Quizzed and quizzical,

L
